Tom Hanks seems to be a good actor and acts like an all natural swell guy, but in real life, Hanks doesn’t have a very safe track record when it came to travel, either. The latest instalment into the “never travel with Tom Hanks, he’s been in one of his worst movies ever” list is “Sully”.
In Sully, Tom Hanks plays an airline pilot who gets into a plane crash that kills the whole crew including himself. Tom Hanks takes on the role of a grief-stricken widower who wants to get back to flying again. To this end, he decides to try out for the airline he used to work for before the plane crash. He has a very impressive test that includes him going out for a run to a nearby lake. But instead of finding himself having a good time, he ends up being scared by sharks and having an experience that many people have never had before.
The movie is about as bad as it gets when it comes to Tom Hanks as a traveling actor. In fact, I was expecting him to play a part in a plane crash that was much worse than what actually took place. I won’t spoil too much, so if you want to see a movie that is truly disgusting, don’t read this review. But suffice to say, I was definitely shocked when I saw this one. It’s definitely not a movie I’d recommend to people who are looking to have an entertainment trip, especially since it’s one of those types of movies where the actors have no real purpose for their characters. Instead, they seem like they’re just trying to make things more interesting.
However, Tom Hanks isn’t the only actor in Sully that I didn’t like. Brad Pitt also plays a part in the movie, and he’s even worse than Tom Hanks. In fact, his character is so unlikable that I’d probably still prefer to drive over the lake rather than have him in my car. No, I’m not saying he’s the most unlikable actor in the world, although he may be one of the worst. in recent memory. But the point is that the movie never gives us a clear picture of what is so bad or so good about Brad Pitt in a plane crash.
Of course, there are good parts in the movie, however, so don’t let the terrible acting keep you from seeing it. There are several good sequences, including one where Tom Hanks’s character flies a plane with his son, which is one of the funniest parts of the movie.
If you really can’t stomach watching a Tom Hanks movie, then at least consider this one. It’s certainly a far cry from the awful stuff he’s been involved in before, which is the movies he made before “Saturday Night Fever”. It’s just one more movie in a long line of examples where Tom Hanks gets involved in something that he shouldn’t have. And even though it isn’t the worst movie in recent memory, it’s certainly not the best. So, if you’ve always felt that you can’t trust Tom Hanks, at least let him miss his opportunity to fly in a plane again.
