Ideas for a Bangkok Honeymoon

Of the multitude of possible Thailand honeymoon destinations, Bangkok is far and away the first one that comes to mind. Bangkok’s name translates roughly as the City of Angels and it’s readily apparent why it received such a title. An exotic, fascinating city with architecture that points to the heavens, the city is an eyeful which will delight any visitor. Attractions include Cabaret shows, an extensive zoo and marina, and a host of historical tours which explore nearly every aspect of the metropolis and the surrounding area.

A honeymoon of course requires a location that is romantic as well as exciting. Bangkok boasts some of the most affordable luxury hotels to be found anywhere in the world including the Conrad Bangkok, Four Seasons Bangkok, and the Lebua at the State Tower. Suites are offered which loom over the buildings below, providing a breathtaking night panorama of the city at a fairly reasonable cost. Some of the best rooms run for only a hundred dollars a night, leaving your money instead for the many shops and activities to be found in the daytime.

The connection between food and love has been known for centuries, and a Bangkok honeymoon wouldn’t be complete without a chance to try out the local fare. B-ok Restaurant and Bar or the Aquatini are both fine examples of the city’s exquisite Thai food. Though, as couples are prone to do on their special trip, being daring can have rewards beyond the expected; some of the best food to be had in town can be bought from vendors on the side of the road. No tables, and no fancy silver; just you and your food, which will most likely be impaled on a stick.

During the day, a couple can take a guided tour to Ayuthaya, the country’s ancient, abandoned capital. The ruins are breathtaking: spires, temples, and ancient stone palaces abound. Tours are also offered to visit the much famed bridge over the River Kwai, and other sites of cultural and historical significance. There exist copious shopping districts all over Bangkok, as well as the world famous “Floating Market, where vendors load their goods into boats and perform their commerce on the river.

Some travel groups will offer “Honeymoon Packages” which encompass a little of everything the place has to offer. These packages can save you time and planning, allowing you to enjoy your honeymoon and not worry about anything else.
