Healthy Cooking for Good Health

With people experiencing problems with weight now more than ever, it’s important to remember to strive for healthy ways to cook food. It’s unfortunate that some of the best tasting food is actually the worst for us, but that’s a fact of life that we have to deal with. Luckily, this doesn’t mean we have to change our favourite recipes entirely. All it takes is a bit of restraint and making smart substitutions to allow us to continue to enjoy some truly delicious food. In the end, you will see the health benefits in addition to looking and feeling a lot better.

Salt is the number one enemy of good health when it comes to cooking. The fact is that Americans have way too much salt in their diets and the effects can be seen in problems associated with blood pressure and heart conditions. Using less salt doesn’t mean you have to endure bland foods if you choose other ways of flavouring. There are many vegetables or herbs that can replace salt quite handily such as garlic or onions. Not only will you get healthy food, you can also find a lot of variation that will add to your overall menu. And while you’re at it, cut down on butter and oil when you’re looking to lubricate your pots and pans.

The method of cooking you choose will also be important as things like deep frying are obviously bad for you. Traditional methods like using an electric oven can be healthy as long as you keep the ingredients in check and choose leaner cuts of meat. And something like the halogen oven offers the ability to grill, broil, and roast in a healthier manner that still retains the flavour and juices of your chosen meat. When it comes to the healthiest ways of cooking, you should never forget steaming as a way to prepare things like vegetables. Or better yet, a good dose of raw fresh fruits and vegetables should be included in every meal to offset the fat content of your other dishes. As always, look to get a wide range of nutrients from different sources. And as long as you prepare them properly, the nutrients will be retained and your overall eating habits will be all the better for it.
