How to Choose a Zojirushi Rice Cooker
If you are trying to decide which Zojirushi rice cooker to get then hopefully this information will be of use. There are many different models sold in North America today so choosing which one is right for you can be a difficult decision to make. The main things to think about are, who are you going to be cooking for? And what types of rice do you want to prepare. Cost is another issue however for now I shall assume that since you are about to buy a Zojirushi rice cooker that you are full aware of how expensive they can be.
There are three main sizes of Zojirushi rice cooking appliances. They are 3 cup, 5.5 cup and 10 cup. This translates into being able to make rice for up to five, ten and eighteen people respectively. Certainly for couples and people living alone, a 3 cup rice cooker is the perfect size. These ones can be used by small families too but you may decide that a 5.5 cup size is more suitable. And for large families, a 10 cup rice cooking device may well be the best bet.
Another important thing to consider is the type of rice that you want to make. Of course all rice cookers can make standard white and brown rice but there are certain appliances that have special settings. For example, the NP-GBC05, NP-HBC10 and NP-HBC18 can make GABA brown rice. This is a particular way of cooking brown rice to make it softer and more nutrient rich. The Zojirushi Rizo has a risotto making setting. Also the NS-TGC10, NS0TGC18 and NS-VGC05 have an option to make cakes. So there are quite wide differences in the foods that you can make with what are essentially very similar devices.
Finally the cost of Zojirushi Micom rice cookers varies between $100 to $400.
